The Shea Nut Tree or Butyrospermum parkii grows on a vast territory of Africa from Senegal to Nigeria. The tall, mighty tree with thick leaves and bark can reach up to 300 years of age. Its fragrant fruits are similar in shape to a small avocado or plum and the nut or seed inside contains butter. Shea nut is very high in oleic acid(fatty acid), which has benefits for the hair and skin. It is used in soaps, creams, lotions and as a pure oil. It has a high saponification factor and is a must have ingredients in soaps.

Shea butter
It takes 100 kg of shea nuts to extract up to 30 kg of butter. The butter is light yellow color and has hard, saturated consistency. It is very high in essential fatty acids (oleic, stearic, linoleic, palmitic, linolenic) and vitamin A. Shea butter has many applications. It is one of the valuable ingredients in African pharmacology, food industry and daily life.

Shea nut oil

Shea nut oil is not a cooking oil and you will not find it in the super markets. This oil is separated from the butter and becomes shea oil. It has many of the same benefits of the butter as it is beneficial for assisting with skin conditions. It can also be used 100% pure as a moisturizing skin or hair serum or massage oil.

I. Sheanut pretreatment

Before extracting oils and fats from shea nuts, the mill needs to prepare it by cleaning, crushing, softening, flaking and cooking. For cleaning, we offer magnetic separator, aspirator or different size cleaning sieves, as shown below, to remove impurities.

Then, the temperature and moisture of shea nut pieces will be adjusted by conditioner or softening kettle so that they become soft and wet enough for flaking. This step improves their ductility. It is special for shea nut oil seeds. Below is photo of softening kettle.

The flaking roll will make the wet soft pieces into flakes. We have vertical flaking roll, multi-stage flaking roll, hydraulic flaking roll and spring flaking roll etc., as shown below.

Finally, the flakes will be cooked to make tiny oils and fats groups get together to become bigger, and to make them less adhesive, easier to get out of flakes.

II. Shea nut oil making

The flakes will be pressed by continuous screw press firstly. After pressing, they fall into two parts: pressed oil and pressed cakes. The oils and fats in pressed cakes will be further extracted by solvent.

Main engine of press machine

Main engine includes base, upright, top plate, oil drip pan nut and so on , it is one of the main parts. Firstly the oil material is put into the assembly of the press boring, then it is drove up by the oil cylinder piston. Oil will flow out from the gap of press boring, and then pass the oil drip pan to the drum for storage.

Hydraulic system of press machine

Hydraulic system is the main power force of this machine, it includes transmission shaft, turbine, worm gear, gear pump, high pressure pump, overflow valve; super high pressure safety valve; hand-operated valve; seamless steel tube; pipeline connect and other spart parts. This machine adopts the advanced power pack of the word, and compared with two plunger pump. It is faster , higher pressure and can resist higher temperature. It can keep working when the oil is above 65 degree, but cooling unit is nessary.
